Buried and Raised
Devotional: Picture yourself holding something precious underwater. The moment you release it, it's gone - buried beneath the surface. That's what happens spiritually in baptism. We're symbolically burying our old life, with all its mistakes and regrets, and rising to embrace a new life in Christ. Just as Jesus was buried in the tomb and rose again, our baptism represents our participation in His death and resurrection. This isn't just religious symbolism - it's a powerful declaration that we're leaving behind who we used to be and embracing who God has created us to be.
Key Bible Verse: "So in Christ Jesus, you are all children of God through faith. For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ." - Galatians 3:26-27
Question: What aspects of your new life in Christ are you most excited about embracing?
Quote: We are then immersed in the water, demonstrating that we have been buried with Christ, that we have buried our past, that we've buried who we were before we met Jesus, and that we've now been set free and we've been forgiven because of Christ, what he did for us.
Prayer: Dear God, thank you for the new life you've given me through Christ. Help me to live fully in this new identity, leaving behind what needs to stay buried. In Jesus' name, Amen.
