Verse: “He controls the course of world events; he removes kings and sets up other kings. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the scholars.”
Devotion: Daniel writes this passage while being held in captivity, surrounded by unbelievers, and working for a pagan tyrant. Yet, he understood that God’s sovereignty goes beyond his understanding. He understood that no matter how bleak a situation may look, God can redeem anything. As we take a look at our world today, it might not look like God is working and in control but we have to accept that his sovereignty goes beyond our understanding. We have to trust in the redeeming heart of God. He still sits on the throne.
Prayer: Our trust is in you, Lord. We may not always understand how you work, but we know your heart, so we will trust your ways. As you move, may we be vessels of your will. In Jesus name, Amen.
