Verse: Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification.
Devotion: If we’re honest, we don’t often make every effort. It’s easy to start off getting along but normally we’re out the moment the going gets tough. This is especially true in a political climate like the one we’re in today. But Paul’s charge remains—we need to strive to work toward peace. We need to think beyond what is best for ourselves, and instead think of what edifies us all. Jesus said, “blessed are the peacemakers, they shall be called Children of God.” Peace is our inheritance, let’s share it with the world around us.
Prayer: Jesus, Prince of Peace, teach us to be peacemakers. Give us the patience that we need to bare with one another in love. Fill us with your Holy Spirit, fill us to overflow, so that your peace not only rests on us but it spills over into the world around us.
