DAY 14 | Romans 13:1,3b

Verse: “Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God…Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended.”

Devotion:All authority figures only hold their power because God allows it. Throughout history, we’ve seen God use evil kings, dictators, and presidents. We’ve even seen the people of God under the oppression of evil kings and leaders. What is God’s command to those who live under the rule of someone like this? Do what is right. There are times where that will look like submission (Jesus paying tax to Caesar) and other times where it will look like rebellion (Daniel refusing to pray to King Darius). Whatever the situation, do what is right—and you will be commended.

Prayer: Lord, teach us your ways. Give us the courage to always choose to do what is right. Give us the wisdom to know when our submission looks like Jesus and when it looks like Daniel. In all things, let us do as unto you. Amen.
